Dr Hajir Nabi is a specialist Colorectal Surgeon consulting and operating across Brisbane, Queensland.

Conditions and Procedures-

Dr Nabi has diverse interests in all aspects of colon and rectal surgery:

• Colorectal cancers (and polyps)

• Diverticular disease

• Inflammatory bowel disease IBD (Crohn's disease and Ulcerative colitis)

• Functional bowel disorders- including rectal prolapse, faecal incontinence and obstructive defecation (difficulty emptying stools from rectum)

• Anorectal conditions

  • Haemorrhoids

  • Anal Fissures

  • Peri-anal Fistulas

 

The vast majority of elective and emergency major colorectal operations will be performed with a minimally invasive approach (Laparoscopic keyhole surgery).

 

He is an experienced endoscopist offering both colonoscopy and gastroscopy (with Gastroenterology Society of Australia GESA accreditation and recent reaccreditation). He is happy to offer direct access procedures on request. Indications include:

• Rectal bleeding

• Positive faecal occult blood test (including National Bowel Cancer Screening Program)

• Anaemia and Iron deficiency

• Change in bowel habits

• Abdominal pain

• Weight loss

• Family history

• Polyp and cancer surveillance

 

 

Training-

Dr Nabi completed his primary and secondary schooling in Adelaide, South Australia. 

 

He then went on to complete his medical degree (MBBS) through the University of Adelaide, finishing in 2004. 

 

His general surgical training was undertaken predominantly through the Royal Adelaide Hospital and Flinders Medical Centre in South Australia, Dr Nabi completed his general surgical examinations in 2012 and was awarded Fellowship of Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS).

 

Having developed a keen interest in colorectal disorders and their management during his general surgical training he undertook post fellowship training in colorectal surgery through the CSSANZ training program. This incorporated 2 years of subspecialty training:

1. Sydney (Bankstown and St George Hospitals)

2. Perth (Fremantle and St John of God Hospitals). 

After accomplishing additional colorectal specific research and examinations he was awarded membership of the Colorectal Surgical Society of Australia and New Zealand (CSSANZ).

 

 

Practice locations-

Dr Nabi commenced private practice in Brisbane in 2015.

 

He regularly consults, operates and scopes at:

1. St Andrew's War Memorial Hospital, Spring Hill

2. North West Private Hospital, Everton Park

 

Research and Teaching-

He has numerous research publications in international journals focusing on colorectal surgery and surgical education and has presented his research at national and international meetings.

• Over 40 publications in peer reviewed journals

• Over 20 presentations at national and international scientific meetings

 

Dr Nabi has several teaching awards for his work with medical students and surgical registrars and remains an enthusiastic teacher:

• 2010 and 2011 Professor Derek Frewin AO Citation for Clinical Teaching award winner, South Australia

• 2011 University of Adelaide Medical School Award- Outstanding Teaching and Service to the Medical Students by a Registrar, South Australia

• 2013 University of New South Wales Tutor of the Year Award, New South Wales

• 2019 GSA Excellence in Surgical Teaching Award, Queensland

• 2022 Mito Foundation Community Appreciation Award
